“Our First Latin Mass” (Yarmouth, Nova Scotia)

On June 14th and 15th, 2019, we had our first Extraordinary Form Masses since this group was founded a couple years ago. Through my inquiries among other members of this group, I was told that the last time there was a TLM in this diocese was 9 years ago, when there was a wedding in the Extraordinary Form. Before that, the last Latin Masses had been in the early 90s.

We were thrilled that Fr. Luc Poirier, FSSP, was able to come say these Masses for us, with the permission of the Archdiocese. It was a last-minute effort to get permission, so we weren’t able to advertise as much as we would have liked. Nonetheless, there were 102 people in attendance on Saturday! Praise God! On Friday they estimated between 60 and 70 people.

Those are outstanding numbers for our first TLM in 9 years!

We are still working to try and make this a regular occurrence. Please continue to pray for us and for Fr. Luc Poirier.

Here are the pictures. Many thanks to John Rae for volunteering to take photos.

The Saturday Mass was a Sung Mass and we had 12 people in the schola.

Ours was not the only baby there either, as we all know that the Latin Mass tends to attract young families.

We also were able to have a coffee social right after the Mass on Saturday.

In the above picture you can see that even Lucy the doll came.

I want to thank everyone that attended, even with the last-minute notice. I also want to thank everyone who worked so hard to make this possible. There were some people working incredibly hard behind the scenes, right up to the very last few minutes before the Mass started!

And thank-you so much to everyone who has supported us. Your prayers and donations are greatly appreciated.

Also, I’d like to add that babies and little kids are very welcome at the Latin Mass. Some people think it is no place for kids, but that is not true! Baby Rose loves to shriek and I even took her. The last time I attended the TLM in Edmonton I must have counted at least 8 babies.
